题  目：Some Useful Tricks In Research on Statistics
内容简介：Statistics problems often start with n observations. It is often a good idea to investigate the problem with small n and then deduct the conclusion from these simple cases to the general case.
We shall discuss three examples for illustration.
1. An longstanding conjecture between 1950's and 1980's and solved by Yu and Chow (1991):Is the edf minimax under the classical continuous set-up ?
2. A difficult open problem between 1950's and 1980's and solved by Yu(1989):Is the edf admissible under the classical continuous set-up ?
3. A longstanding open problem under investigation: Is the Wilcoxon test admissible under the classical continuous set-up ?
These problems are related to the optimality of the statistical inferences.

报告人简介：余岐青教授于1982年本科毕业于中山大学，分别于1983年和1986年获美国UCLA（University of California，Los Angeles）统计学硕士和博士学位。他先后受聘于美国Northeastern University，Stony Brook University等多所知名大学任教。目前，余岐青教授是State University of  New York  at Binghamton终身教授，中山大学客座教授。余岐青教授主要从事统计学方面的研究，其研究领域涉及生存分析、统计决策理论、基因组测序中的概率论模型及计算方法等，先后成功攻克了统计学决策论方面的两个关于经验分布函数的难题。研究结果先后发表于Annals of Statistics等国际一流的统计学杂志上。主持完成美国国家自然科学基金项目7项、美国国防部研究基金项目3项、美国电力研究基金项目2项、NIH基金项目2项。
