课程介绍	美国短篇小说课程中文简介美国短篇小说是面对全院各专业的学生所开设的选修课程，其目的在于通过对美国优秀小说的欣赏阅读及其相关知识的介绍和学习，使学生对英语小说有一个综合的认识。英美两国小说的发展，与其社会生活的各个领域息息相关，对英美小说有关知识的了解和掌握不仅有助于学生培养对文学作品的欣赏和理解能力，提高其文学素养，而且能帮助学生更好地认识西方文化与社会，进一步促进学生英语水平的综合发展。本课程希望通过介绍学生阅读一些优秀的英文原著，使他们进一步了解英语国家的文化与背景知识，并更多地理解一些著名英美国家作者的创作方法，创作思路，写作特点，以此来提高学生自己的英语写作。通过阅读英文原著，不仅可以扩大学生的词汇量和对于英语文章的理解能力，提高学生听说读写各个方面的英语水平，还能有效地提高学生对于英语学习的兴趣及方法。像这种高级英语阅读的目标就是改善大学生在英语学习中感到自己止步不前，没有大的进步的现状。首先要用好的作 Course Description This course will be taught mainly in English. The students are required to do a certain amount of reading according to their different ability in English before each class. They need to participate actively in group discussions in class. The instructor would expect them to ask questions and answer questions in class. Their participation in class will be evaluated and would be included in their final score at the end of the term. This course takes the style of the Literature Courses in the American Universities; there would be a lot of discussions and questions between the instructor and the students and among the students themselves. The instructor would take the place of a helper, not the dominator of the class. So the students need to think independently and try to understand the fictions in their own way. The students are expected to hand in some compositions and finish some tasks during the term, both tasks would be closely connected to the fictions they are assigned to read . At the end of the term, the students have to write an essay of a 1000 words ,analyzing and conveying their own thinking about one or more fictions covered in the course.
