本课程通过向学生介绍在人类历史上人与动物之间的交互关系，包括狩猎、驯化饲养家畜、动物崇拜、役用牲畜、动物实验、观赏和宠物伴侣等，使学生了解人类与动物的紧密关系以及保护动物资源的重要性和必要性。课程内容包括：1、课程概论；2、狩猎；3、驯化、饲养和繁育；4、食用；5、开发动物资源和保护动物；6、活体解剖和反对活体解剖；7、动物和传染病；8、宠物；9、动物园和动物展览。学生作业的论文题目包括人类对动物及其智力的观点演变、人类对动物应承担的道德职责和使用动物的限制等。 Course Description A historical survey of the ways that people have interacted with their closest animal relatives, for example: hunting, domestication of livestock, worship of animal gods, exploitation of animal labor, scientific study of animals, display of exotic and performing animals, and pet keeping. Topics for special emphasis include1.Animals and Us2.The Hunt3.Domestication and Breeding 4.Meat5.Animal Exploitation and Animal Protection6.Vivisection and Antivivisection7.Animals and Infection7.Pets9.Zoos and Menageries Themes include changing ideas about animal agency and intelligence, our moral obligations to animals, and the limits imposed on the use of animals. |
