主要英语国家概况 课程中文简介
教学目标：本课程旨在通过系统介绍世界主要英语国家的历史、地理、经济、文学概况及现状，文化传统、风俗习惯和语言发展，使学生对这些国家有充分的了解。本课程在提高学生英语听、说、读、写等基本技能的基础上更进一步增加对西方国家社会和文化的认识，从而拓宽视野，促进跨文化交际能力的提高。本课程注重东西文化对比，联系社会文化时事，能全面提高新时代大学生的英语水平和素养，通过学习，能巩固和发展学生实际运用语言的能力，激发他们的兴趣，为进一步学习打下基础。教学要求：本课程为非英语专业学生基础阶段开设的关于英语国家（英国、爱尔兰、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚和新西兰）的社会与文化背景知识课，旨在提高学生对文化差异的敏感性、宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性，培养学生跨文化交际能力。该课程是一门实用性很强的文化知识课，学生通过阅读主要英语国家的背景资料，扩大知识面，掌握在跨文化交际过程中培养较好的表达能力。通过课堂讨论和作业，使学生能够分析和对照主要英语国家文化与中国文化间的差异。全课程分两大部分：第一部分为英国、爱尔兰和澳大利亚的概况，历史和现状（现状包括地理、人民、政府、政党、经济、教育等）；第二部分为新西兰、美国、加拿大的概况，历史和现状。本课程体现教学应以学生为中心，学生自己是学习的主人的教学思想，帮助学生抓住重点，分清主次，了解大概，扩大文化知识面。本课程贯彻英语教学与文化知识课紧密相结合的原则，鼓励学生通过小组讨论，演讲与写作的方式提高使用英语表达思想的能力。
Course Description
This is a course for non English majors. The textbook we use is A Guide to English-Speaking Countries. In this course, the six major English-speaking countries including the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are going to be introduced. The course presents the student-centred approach to language knowledge and language skills, so that the students not only learn about background information of major English-speaking countries, but also learn how to use their knowledge in cultural interactive situations.
