中西文化交流口语 课程中文简介
《中西文化交流口语》是面向珠海校区非英语专业本科生的一门通识教育选修课。该课程的教学目标是通过有效的阅读和听说来培养学生的英语综合应用能力，特别是英语口头表述和探讨中西文化主题的能力，使他们初步掌握用正确的英语表达交流中西文化方面的知识，学会借助工具书和运用自己各方面的知识，深入理解中西文化有关主题的内容和实质，同时增强其自主学习能力，提高综合文化素养，以适应我国社会发展和国际交流的需要。语言是文化的重要载体；反之，文化对语言的使用和发展亦有着重要的影响。也就是说，语言学习离不开对文化知识的了解。对于学习外语的人来说，掌握所学语言的语音、语法、词汇知识，以及听、说、读、写、译等技能是必要的，但也很有必要了解目的语的一些重要的文化知识点。此课程旨在一方面向学生介绍英美文化重要主题的基本知识，如《圣经》，英国王室，美国大学,以及英美两国主要节日习俗等，使学生掌握以英美文化为主的一些基本的英语学习背景知识，了解中西文化的差异，能够用正确的英语表达、阐述和探讨英美文化主题；另一方面通过本课程的学习，引导学生用英语重温已熟知的中国文化重要主题并学习相关的英语表达，如孔孟之道，丝绸之路，中国功夫，中国的节日习俗等，在提高其文化素养的同时培养用英语传播中国文化的知识和语言技能，从而掌握和英语国家人士就文化主题展开交谈的语言基础，培养他们跨文化的口语交流能力，以适应全球化进程的要求。课程要求学生能基本了解中西文化（中英美）重要的主题相关知识，学习相关的正确英文词汇及表达，能用正确的英语对所学习的中英美三国文化知识点进行介绍、解释和交流，尤其能够用英语为英美等国人士较为准确、流利地介绍并传播重要的中国文化主题方面的知识。课程除课堂教师讲授外，较多利用多媒体，特别采用教师与学生、学生与学生的互动教学方式，激发学生学英语、说英语的热情。课程包括8个教学单元，涉及中英美三国的历史和人民、教育和生活、健康和运动、文学、节日和习俗、经济和政府各个方面的包括酒吧文化、大学生活、网上购物等多个文化主题，通过观看短片、阅读短文、组织情景对话等方式，达到提高学生英语水平的目的。
Course Description
The course, An Oral Approach to Chinese and Western Cultures, is a selective course designed for non-English major students on Zhuhai campus, with the sole purpose to encourage and improve their English synthesis application ability, especially the ability to express and discuss Chinese and Western cultural subjects in oral English through effective reading, listening and speaking practice. It will help the students to communicate Chinese and Western cultural knowledge with proper English, learn to understand more about the content and substance of some important Western cultural subjects so as to make them meet the needs of China’s social development and international exchange.As culture is very important to the application and development of language, it is crucial for a language learner to have a good understanding of the culture on which the target language is based. From studying this course, on one hand, the students will get to know some basic knowledge of important British and American cultural topics, such as the Bible, British Royal Family, American University and Western festivals and customs, see the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and learn how to interpret Western culture in good oral English； on the other hand, they will review Chinese cultural points through English, learn the relevant English expressions, improve their mind, at the same time, grasp the language ability to introduce Chinese culture to the Western world, so to enhance their cross-cultural communication ability to satisfy the requirements of globalization in today’s world.This course requires the students to comprehend the important cultural subjects, learn the vocabulary and expressions so that they can introduce, explain and communicate at a cultural level, especially spread Chinese culture to English speaking people with fluent and proper oral English. Taking full advantage ofmulti-media facilities, the teacher would adopt an interactive teaching method besides class lecturing in order to motivate the students’ interest in learning English and especially speaking in English.This course contains 8 teaching units, covering poplular topics such as pub culture , campus life, online shopping，etc. under Chinese and Western cultural aspects of history and people, education and life, health and sports, literature, festivals and customs, economy and governement. By watching short videos, reading short essays, organizing situational dialogues, this course works at enhancing the students’ English level to a new height.
